Catwoman – Barry™
Assemblage, 6’H x 4’W
In Catwoman, hand-drawn pop icons, religious fragments, and wild painterly textures collide into a kinetic tapestry of identity and memory. What begins as familiar fan culture quickly fractures into a personal, symbolic collision — a self-portrait disguised as cartoon chaos.
About Catwoman
Catwoman pre-dates the explosion of fan art culture.
Each figure in the piece — though recognizable — belongs to Barry’s hand, filtered through his own sensibility and layered meaning:
Catwoman, the iconic adolescent crush, stands not as a pop object, but as an avatar of youthful longing, strength, and mythologized femininity.
Tasmanian Devil erupts into the composition as mischievous chaos — a double for Barry’s own playful resistance to artistic solemnity.
Daffy Duck dances through the lower field, manic and expressive — frustration, humor, and resilience embodied.
A screwdriver and Barry’s signature crowned head hide in plain sight, subtle insertions of the artist’s hand and personal mythology.
Religious imagery blends into vivid expressionist backgrounds, undercutting any clean division between the sacred and the absurd.
Catwoman is not a simple collage or celebration of nostalgia.
It is a collision — a devotional, a self-portrait, a cultural autopsy — inviting viewers to trace, or lose, their own paths through its layered histories.
